Waratah

54 series, Waratah, was issued in 1931 according to Gary Workman’s pattern sheets and is particularly collectable for its Australian flora theme.

Shapes include the following:

  • 8.5″ comport (#5370);
  • 4.5″ round (#5300), square (#5304) and triangular (#5303) nappies;
  • covered butter (#5340);
  • two styles of covered sugar (#5335 and #5336);
  • 9″ salver (#5375);
  • covered marmalade (#5356);’
  • covered jam (with spoon hole) (#5350);
  • an open sugar (#5332);
  • 8.5″ round (#5320), square (#5324) and triangular (#5323) salad bowls;
  • 9″ footed fruit bowl or salad (#5328)
  • cream jug (#5360);
  • tumblers (#5367);
  • an ice plate (a small, shallow bowl) (#5307);
  • a 2 pint jug (#5360).¬†

Workman lists the following colours: flint (clear), pastel blue, pastel green, frosted green (acid etched) and amethyst. In addition, these have also been seen in frosted flint and with enamel paint – which may have been applied after they left the factory, possibly by Etherden.
